Birthday Party Planning Update... 4 days to go!

With only 4 days to go to the party, I am cutting everything down to the wire but going at it full force. It wouldn't be so bad if we weren't now expecting a high of only 52 on Sunday, my husband wanting to move the party to a place I haven't even checked into and to top it off, the lady who is making Baylor's b-day shirt called to tell me it has been a disaster. I originally bought a brown shirt to have his 2 and name appliqued onto since I could not find the baby blue shirt I originally wanted. I searched high and low for the baby blue and had to settle for a brown $2 shirt from Hobby Lobby. She called to tell me this morning that in the middle of making the brown shirt, her machined messed up and ruined the brown shirt. Luckily though, she did have a baby blue shirt she was able to find and redid everything on it. Needless to say, this disaster turned out to be the best!

She's also insisting that she is not letting me pay her a dime since she messed up the brown t-shirt I bought him but I am still going to pay her the $10.00 she originally asked for. Moving on.... I completed Baylor's cake eating bib last night. I used the same fabric that is used for the #2 in his b-day t-shirt. The hardest part was sewing on the snaps since I had already sewn 98% of the bib before I realized I hadn't done the snaps yet. I was proud of how it turned out:

Decorations are almost complete. I received Baylor's dump truck last night that I ordered from

Gilt Groupe a few weeks back, thanks to my $20.00 credit. It will be used along with a boat and another truck on top of the picnic tables to hold balloons. I have to admit I thought it was going to much bigger but I am still pleased with it... and so is Baylor. He played with it from the moment it came through the door until he went to bed.

I had alot of scrapbook paper for his party theme leftover so I decided to make some other things to hang from the pavilion as well:

There are 2 of these and both have a #2 and a B on either side of them. I just cut a circle out of card board and covered it with his scrapbook paper, which is super cute with the tires in different colors. I will hang it with baby blue ribbon. I also decided to make "poofs" to match. I found a great tutorial on how to make them and went and bought 2 packs of lime green tissue paper to make them. They will hang interchangeably with the cardboard circles.

So now I am just praying this will all piece together perfectly and we will have a warm enough day to have his party at the park. If not, the house it is!

Birthday Planning Update... 34 days to go!

Okay, this party planning committee (which includes me, myself and I) have been trying to get things done to stay ahead of the game... so far so good! This week I finished Baylor's birthday banner. It was no easy task having to do all the letters for "Happy Birthday Baylor", cutting them out in blue and lime green, gluing them all on and then cutting out 2 other background colors to contrast them. Then to finish it off, I punched holes in the paper and ran some lime green ribbon through and viola!

What's on the list next? The dreaded birthday shirt! As you know, I am having to make everything for the party seeing that I couldn't find anything I liked enough to buy for Baylor's birthday, including his shirt. I searched everywhere and thoroughly on etsy and still couldn't find exactly what I wanted. I did however find some fabric that I just adore.... plus it ties into his invite (stars). So I bought a yard of this Allstar Fabric by Riley Blake on etsy for $10.00 with shipping. I am currently looking for a short sleeve shirt and a long sleeve to go underneath, incase it turns off cold for his party. I plan on making the applique for his shirt which of course will be a "2" and stitching it on there. Then I plan on taking it to my monogram lady to have his name put on it. I'm glad I bought a yard of this fabric, just incase.

Birthday Planning Update... 45 days to go!

Like I said before, I've had been pushing full speed ahead on Baylor's 2nd birthday party planning. I finally found what I wanted to make Baylor's invitation since I couldn't find anything premade I liked, that I wanted to buy. So I found what I needed at Hobby Lobby and got busy... The theme this year is "Little Boys and Their Toys"... Baylor loves cars and trucks, really anything with wheels. The invitation border I found has alittle of everything on it from trucks, to spaceships, to trains and boats but the truck and dump truck will be used the most when creating his decorations for the pavilion. I found some solid color paper in orange, blue and green to print the actual invitation on and then found some matching stickers to go with it. I used the brown border with the trucks and all and put the solid color invitation on top. I was happy with the results..

The stickers are not as shiny as they look, even though they are metallic. I think the flash put an extra shine to them....

The invitation is hard to read but it says (I even made up the wording myself):

"Boy time really flew...

Baylor's already turning 2!"

I have the directions printed to the park on the back and in case of cold or rainy weather, it also states the party will be moved to our house and I listed our address with my cell phone number too. The next batch of invites will be on green card stock with different trucks, trains and dump truck stickers as well. Now I have to start on his decorations and work on making (yes, I said making) his shirt because of course I can't find exactly what I want. I'm a perfectionist, so sue me.

Halloween Traditions Part 2

Like I stated in my previous post, I am making it a tradition to make something for Baylor for his Halloween outfit every year. Last year I made his octopus costume and this year since we bought his "Big Al" elephant costume I decided to make his bag. I searched for how to make "football shaped" bags and couldn't find what I was looking for. I was to scared to wing it so I started brainstorming some more. I decided to search out some black and white houndstooth fabric (like Bear Bryant's hat) and yet again Hobby Lobby had exactly what I was looking for... almost. I found felt houndstooth instead but I figured it would pretty much turn out the same. I bought 3 pieces of the black and white houndstooth , one piece of crimson and one brown colored felt piece. I then got some white gross grain ribbon to accent the letters. I started by cutting out "BAMA" from the crimson felt and attached it to the front of the first houndstooth piece. I then cut out the football and tired to sew the football stitching on it but that didn't work. I ended up using the white ribbon on the football too! I topped off the football with an "A". I cut stripes from the extra houndstooth piece, folded them in long ways and sewed them onto the bag. The I just sewed the bag together. It's not perfect but I think it's a nice little accessory for my boy's "Big Al" costume. Plus, it's made with love, by his mommy!
